Assistant Technical Brewer
If you’re looking to turn your academic knowledge into a hands-on technical career in brewing and manufacturing, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and start your journey with Muntons!
Ready to apply your degree to global-scale biotechnology?
If you hold a degree in Brewing Science, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a process-driven Food Science discipline, then you want to see how world-class science operates at a global scale.
Welcome to Muntons.
With over 100 years of expertise, we are a leading global supplier of high-quality malt and malted ingredients to some of the world’s most recognized food and beverage brands, alongside exciting craft brewers and distillers. Based at our world class facility in Stowmarket, we are looking for an ambitious Assistant Technical Brewer to join our Liquid Malted Ingredients team.
Whether you come from a pure brewing pedigree or a heavy food manufacturing and process engineering background, this is your platform to bridge the gap between academic theory and world-class industrial execution.
Why Join Muntons?
Real Scale, Real Tech: You will gain hands-on exposure to large-scale industrial equipment, advanced automation, complex liquid processing, and modern laboratory testing.
Structured Professional Development: We don’t just hire you; we provide a structured training, mentoring, and development program, including full support for industry-recognized professional qualifications (such as IBD modules).
World Leaders in Sustainability: Work for a forward-thinking business that is truly passionate about the environment—we are already more than halfway towards our net-zero carbon target by 2050.
A Collaborative Environment: You will be part of a supportive team where your progression genuinely matters, gaining direct exposure to real-world projects alongside experienced specialists.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Working within our Liquid Malted Ingredients team, you will support brewing operations, technical projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Technical & Process Support - Assist in optimizing our liquid extract and brewing processes to improve efficiency, throughput, and consistency. Support troubleshooting activities to maximize yield and performance.
Sampling & Analysis - Carry out routine sampling, laboratory analysis, and data collection to monitor pipeline biochemistry. Maintain highly accurate records of trials, results, and technical investigations.
Projects & Continuous Improvement (CI) - Contribute directly to optimization projects and engage with structured problem-solving. Support factory initiatives relating to quality, food safety, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and sustainability.
Documentation & Communication - Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), production records, and technical documentation. Communicate your findings clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
What We’re Looking For:
We want someone with a sharp, analytical mind who has a baseline of practical exposure (6+ months via a lab, a factory floor, or an academic industrial placement) and a passion for process innovation.
Essential Requirements:
A degree in Brewing & Distilling, Brewing Science, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or Food Science/Technology (specifically tracks focusing on process engineering, unit operations, or bioprocessing rather than pure nutrition).
Strong IT skills (particularly Excel and Word for data management).
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and a proactive attitude with an eagerness to learn.
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
A genuine interest in continuous improvement and process optimization.
Desirable (But Not Essential):
Practical experience in a commercial brewery, distillery, or food production facility.
Hands-on laboratory experience.
Prior knowledge of food safety, GMP, or quality management systems.
An IBD General Certificate in Brewing (GCB).
What We Offer:
Competitive Base Salary: Up to £28,000 (Reviewed annually).
Financial Perks: Profit-based bonus scheme and a 5% employer pension contribution.
Health & Wellbeing: Health Cash Plan + rewards, alongside Life Assurance.
Work-Life Balance: Flexible working options.
Lifestyle Benefits: Access to exclusive employee discounts via myStaffShop.
To Apply: If you are ready to kickstart a long-term technical career in a thriving, historic, yet forward-thinking global industry, we want to hear from you.
